Newsflash

Yesterday all servers in the U.S. went out on strike in a bid to get more RAM and better CPUs. A spokes person said that the need for better RAM was due to some fool increasing the front-side bus speed. In future, buses will be told to slow down in residential motherboards.

Spotlight on the VIP’S

Don't stop believing in show choir. There is no "I" in "Glee"! The real Glee has been Capital High School’s VIP’s this past month. This winter has been a very unusual one with lots of snow and continued to be a major factor in getting all of the choirs to most of the competitions this month. The VIP’s began their competition season on February 6 at the Poca High School’s MUSICFEST. The VIP’s were Grand Champion in their Class B; won Best Stage Crew and came in 2nd Runner-Up to Grand Champion at the end of the day. February 13 the VIP’s traveled to Medina (Ohio) High School’s MIDWEST SHOWCASE where they competed in a very tough competition winning 2nd Place Class A; Best Female Soloists-Sarah Pauley and came in 2nd Runner-Up to two nationally ranked Ohio show choirs. Sarah Pauley also won Outstanding Performer for Capital and 2nd Place in the Solo Competition. February 20th brought 11 choirs to Capital for the VIP INVITATIONAL. Sixteen groups were slated to compete but again the weather caused all four of our Virginia schools to drop out as well as three West Virginia schools. Despite the weather it was a great day for choral music at Capital High School. Our last competition for the season was February 27 at Cabell Midland High School’s RHYTHM IN RED SHOW CHOIR COMPETITION. Congratulation on a job well done!  Grand Champion, Best Choral Sound, 1st Runner-Up in Class A, Best Female Soloist-Sarah Pauley and Best Performer for Capital-Sarah Pauley. Thank you for all your hard work...hard work does pay off!

Multi-tasking is just another way of life for a member of the VIP’s as they prepare for their competition show, learn and perform eight All State songs, eight All County songs and musical auditions for FAME to be held in late April. As they head into March we begin with the West Virginia Music Educator’s All State Chorus held March 4-6 in Charleston. This year Sarah Pauley, Ashley Bsharah, Nicole Sangid, Morgan Henson, Marty Riley, Caleb Hardy, Nick Naylor and Josh Terpening successfully completed the audition process and will represent CHS in the All State Chorus. March 11 & 12 is Kanawha County’s All County Chorus with Dr. Timothy Sharp (Executive Director of the American Choral Director’s Association) conducting. The following students will represent Capital in the two-day event: Taylor Blaney, Ashley Bsharah, Natalie Byrne, Madison Chase, McKenzie Greer, Michaela Hairston, Caleb Hardy, Brandon Hawkins, Cedric Haynes, Morgan Henson, Chelsea Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Isaac Jones, Dayja Legg, Olivia Lester, Brian Morris, Jodi Morris, Olivia Myers, Sierra Myers, Alexandra Mullins, Nicholas Naylor, Erin O’Neil, Sarah Pauley, Andrea Perrow, Morgan Prunty, Marty Riley, Nicole Sangid, Saquaia Scott, Terrell Scott, Erin Shelton, Alison Taylor, Josh Terpening, Anthony Thomas, Allison Whitener, and Margaret Wuletich. March 15th the VIP’s have been selected to perform for the Governor’s Arts Awards at the Cultural Center. The award categories are Arts in Education Award for efforts to strengthen arts education in West Virginia public schools and the overall impact on arts education in West Virginia; Distinguished Service to the Arts Award for exceptional talent and creativity that have contributed to the arts and have fostered growth and influenced trends and aesthetic practices on a state and national level; Leadership in the Arts Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership and access to the arts throughout the state of West Virginia; Artist of the Year recognizes an individual artist who has displayed excellence in their discipline and has impacted the exposure to the arts in West Virginia through their work; and the Governor’s Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement for significant accomplishments in the arts. This is truly an honor to be a part of this special event held to honor the arts community of West Virginia. Then closing out the month of March, the VIP’s will be performing on the Navigator of the Sea, Royal Caribbean’s flagship, during their spring break.
