SPOTLIGHT ON VIP’s
Thirty-four years ago the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Kanawha County School’s “Swing Sing” opened at the Municipal Auditorium. A lot has changed since then: audiences, ticket prices, and, of course, the shows. With all of these differences how does Swing Sing hold up after a decades? Not too badly, it would appear. On Sunday, November 22, 2009, the VIP’s performed in the 34th annual Swing Sing. Swing Sing is a showcase event, which displays choral talent throughout the county. All seven county high school's choral departments were represented in what proved to be an entertaining afternoon. The theme for this year’s show is all about “True Colors, becoming who you already are”. For Swing Sing 2009 they performed: Façade, Ripple In The Water and Carry On/Hold On from their competition show. The VIP’s performed last and gave a scintillating performance. Congratulations to the VIP’s and parents. As we enter December, the VIP’s have a busy schedule with rehearsals and concerts for Brickstreet, Edgewood Summit and the girls will be the featured singers in the Charleston Ballet’s and West Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s production of “The Nutcracker”. As the student’s conclude 2009 with our Performing Arts Holiday Show it has been a very busy summer and fall with all anticipating our competition season beginning in February.
Sleigh bells ring…are you listening? Well you better be, because Capital High School is singing, acting and flaring their trumpets to holiday cheer in the annual Performing Arts Holiday Show. Although you can’t pay in candy canes prices are $5.00 for Adults and $3.00 for students. So come be at the cold on December 17th at 7:00 PM in the Capital High School Performing Arts Centre with the Capital High School Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Band, Choral Department, Dance Company and the Drama Department.
